El 29 de enero de 2008, lanzó su primer álbum en cinco años: Symphony, influenciado por sonidos góticos. La canción "Symphony" es un cover de "Symphonie" del grupo alemán Silbermond. En el álbum destacan las participaciones de los artistas Fernando Lima, Andrea Bocelli, y el vocalista de Kiss, Paul Stanley, que en dúo con Brightman interpretan "I'll be with you", cuya versión fue tema de la película Pocket Monsters.

Para promocionar Symphony, en otoño de 2008, Brightman se embarcó en una gira visitando numerosas ciudades en Estados Unidos, Canadá, México, Europa y Asia.
El 8 de agosto de 2008 Brightman y el cantante chino Liu Huan cantaron conjuntamente "You and Me" en mandarín e Inglés en los Juegos Olímpicos de Beijing 2008 en la ceremonia de apertura. El 4 de noviembre de 2008, Brightman lanzó su primer álbum de temporada, titulado "A Winter Symphony".
